Abstract

592,259. Thermionic amplifiers and modulators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 2, 1943, No. 18162. Convention date, May 18, 1942. [Class 40 (v)] An amplifier, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a number of push-pull pairs with their input and output tank circuits connected at #/2 intervals to transmission lines to which the input and output circuits are coupled at any point. Each pair has its own D.C. sources. A modulator comprises two push-pull pairs having their input and output tank circuits connected by #/2 lengths of transmission line, the conductors of one of which are transposed so that a carrier applied at 94 produces no current on the output circuit 110 except when the pairs are unbalanced by the application of a modulating current at 106. As an alternative, the modulating wave may be applied to the grid circuits.
