535,834. Valve amplifying and modulating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1939, No. 30920. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] A transmitting amplifier or modulator for broad band (e.g. television) signals comprises two push-pull pairs of valves 1, 2 with their grids energized from an input transmission line TL at point a quarter of a wave length, or an odd multiple thereof, apart, and their anodes similarly energizing an output transmission line TL<SP>I</SP>. For each pair of valves the reduction of the impedances associated with the other pair compensates for the reactive effect of its associated impedances, and hence for side bands well displaced from the carrier the impedance associated with the valves appear more nearly reactive, and thus a broader frequency band can be handled. The output from an amplifier stage as shown can be directly connected to the grid circuits of a further such stage. Modulating potentials may be applied to either the grids or the anodes and carrier current applied through the line TL. The output can be connected to an aerial by a transmission line T<SP>1</SP>L<SP>1</SP> of half the characteristic impedance of the line TL<SP>1</SP>,
