Abstract

369,167. Valve generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London. -(Assignees of Finch, J. L.; Patchogue, and Conklin, J. W. ; Rocky Point, both in Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 14, 1931, No. 31587. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1930. [Class 40 (v).] In a thermionic amplifier or oscillator stabilized in frequency by the use of a long electrical line connected between input and output, stray and interelectrode feed-back is reduced by (a) neutralizing, (b) the use of valves in push-pull. The line may include a U-shaped or trombone slide for varying the length and may consist wholly or in part of lumped capacity and inductance. Fig. 1 shows a neutralized oscillator 8 modulated by a transformer and stabilized by the line 10 coupled to a power amplifier 22. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), keying is effected by varying the grid bias of the amplifier or the oscillator. Fig. 4 shows a screen-grid push-pull oscillator 47, 49 in which the lines are adjusted by members 58, 60 and are inductively coupled to the input and output of the oscillator. Modulation is effected by varying screen-grid potential and the tappings to the line may be made at points remote from the ends by one quarter of the working wave-length to avoid difficulty in obtaining aperiodic transfer due to the end turns. The line may be used to couple the output of the amplifier following the oscillator back to the oscillator grid. The line may comprise an inductance 116, Fig. 6, shunted by condensers 118 or separate lumped inductances may be used in one or both the leads between each pair of condensers. The inductances may be shielded by a screening member 120. Alternatively the line may comprise concentric tubes with water, oil or sulphur as a dielectric. Specification 342,976 is referred to.
