Abstract
431,900. Valve circuits for wireless reception. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.-(Assignees of Plebanski, J. ; 32, Wspolna, Warsaw) Nov. 23, 1934, No. 33760. Convention date, Aug. 18. [Class 40 (v)] In a thermionic amplifier of the kind employing one or more tuned rejector circuits connected to auxiliary grids, means are provided for eliminating capacity coupling effects between the auxiliary grid and the input grid. As shown, an auxiliary grid is situated between the input grid and the output anode of a tuned high-frequency valve amplifier and .is connected to a tapping on a circuit L, C tuned to an undesired frequency. One side of the tuned circuit is earthed through a condenser and is connected to a positive voltage source through a resistance R. The other side of the tuned circuit is connected to the input grid through a neutralizing condenser NC. If the rejector circuit L, C is tuned fairly closely at one side of the desired frequency, it produces a sharp fall in the resonance characteristic on that side ; and by employing two rejector circuits tuned respectively on each side of the desired frequency the resonance characteristic falls sharply on both sides. The two rejector circuits may be included in successive stages of a cascade amplifier, Fig. 3, (not shown) ; or they may be connected to separate grids of the same valve, Fig. 5, (not shown). Self-oscillation may be prevented by the use of additional screening-grids and screening-boxes for the circuit elements. Damping of the rejector circuits may be controlled by unbalancing the neutralizing condensers. The amplifier is given a band-pass characteristic by employing coupled output circuits OC.
