Abstract

474,388. Valve circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BELL, D. A. April 29, 1936, No. 12218. [Class 40 (v)] In a frequency-divider capable of dividing by any even number there is no output in the absence of input. The input frequency is applied through terminals 11 to the grids 5, 6 in parallel, while the subharmonic frequency is superimposed on the same grids by way of cross coupling condensers 15, 16, connected across a circuit 18 tuned to the subharmonic frequency. The grids 5, 6 are so biassed that no anode current flows in a valve unless both the component voltages on the grid of that valve are positive ; and such a coincidence of positive voltages is shown to occur in each valve once per cycle of the subharmonic frequency. The cross coupling is of such magnitude that it is insufficient to cause self-oscillation. The output circuit, having output terminals 21, is balanced with respect to the input circuit and is consequently freed from the input frequency.
