Abstract

776,228. Frequency doubling circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1955 [Sept. 9, 1954], No- 25522/55. Class 40(6) A frequency doubler comprises two valves having a common cathode resistor and having the anode of the first valveconnected to a tapping on the anode load of the second, the input signal being applied to the grid of the first valve and the grid of the second being earthed. It. is explained that as the instantaneous voltage Ui on the first grid increases from cut off value V1 (Fig. 2) the anode current of the first value increases and that of the second decreases so that the anode voltage Va of the second valve increases until at the point Vo the current in the second valve cuts off whereupon the increasing current in the first valve causes the voltage to decrease again. Accordingly if the first valve is biased to the point Vo, frequency doubling of the input signal takes place. It is stated that by suitable choice of valves the characteristic of the circuit may be made symmetrical and a substantial sinusoidal voltage output may be obtained.
