651,478. Valve amplifying circuits; automatic gain control. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1947, No. 32420. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1946. [Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vi)] A circuit for deriving a push - pull output from a single-ended source comprises a hexode valve 1, with the input applied to the third grid, and the outputs taken from the anode and interconnected screen (second and fourth) grids respectively. The screen grid circuit includes an impedance 2 of such value that the anode current/first grid volts characteristic has a negative slope and a positive feed-back circuit 5, 3, 4 is provided between the anode and the first grid. A control voltage may be applied to the third grid, and a corresponding voltage of lower amplitude and opposite sign may be applied to the first grid. As shown, diodes 7, 8 are connected to give contrast expansion. A neutralizing condenser may be connected between the anode and third grid and negative feed-back may be provided between the anode and third grid and between the screen grids and the first grid, Fig. 3 (not shown). The screen circuit may include a frequency-sensitive impedance of such value that the anode current/input volts characteristic has zero slope for an undesired frequency. The input may be applied to the first grid.
