Abstract

628,601. Valve amplifying circuits. YARBOROUGH, E. H. COOKE-. Oct. 31, 1946, No. 32365. [Class 40 (vi)] A thermionic valve amplifier for obtaining an output voltage across a load in the anode circuit which is in phase with the input voltage comprises a valve having two control grids biassed at or near earth potential; the cathode circuit contains a resistance having a value which is large compared with the reciprocal of the control grid mutual conductance, and is connected to a negative supply terminal, and the input is applied to that control grid which is nearer the cathode. In the Figure the input is applied between terminals 5, 6 and the output taken from terminal 4, terminal 9 is connected to a negative potential and terminal 8 to a positive potential with respect to earth. As the input voltage increases the cathode potential follows and the potential of the suppressor grid 3 is thus reduced with respect to cathode, there is thus a reduction of current flow to the anode and its potential rises. Additional negative feedback may be obtained by coupling the anode to suppressor grid.
