Abstract

816,664. Amplifying circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 9, 1956 [Nov. 14, 1955], No. 34315/56. Class 40 (6). The anode of an amplifier valve is connected to the positive terminal of supply through a transistor, the collector of the transistor being connected to the anode, the emitter through a resistance to the positive terminal of the supply and the base through a low resistance to the supply. The transistor acts as a low resistance for D.C., but a high impedance for A.C., the value of the latter being increased by the presence of the emitter resistor. In the circuit shown, the anode of the amplifier valve is connected to the grid of a cathode follower valve 12 which supplies the screen grid voltage for the amplifier valve through a decoupling circuit and negative feedback, through resistor 24, to the input of the amplifier. In an alternative circuit in which the negative feedback is omitted (Fig. 3, not shown), the screen grid voltage for the amplifier valve is obtained from a tap on the cathode resistor of valve 12 and the decoupling is effected by a capacitor connected across this resistor. In this embodiment the output is taken from the anode of valve 12.
