Abstract
624,674. Valve amplifying circuits. YARBOROUGH, E. H. COOKE-, and BRADWELL, J. A. Feb. 27, 1947, No. 5699. [Class 40 (vi)] In a D.C. amplifier, an A.C. potential applied to an electrode of a valve allows current to flow to charge a capacitor, the D.C. input reducing the charge so that the A.C. output is proportional to the D.C. input. The A.C. and D.C. potentials are applied between terminals 4, 5 and 1, 5 respectively, the capacitor 3 charging until the valve current is reduced to the leakage across the capacitor. When the D.C. increases in a negative sense, pulses of current flow through the valve 2. Since the fundamental frequency has a component due to the anode-cathode capacity, this is rejected by filter 8 which passes one or more of the harmonics. The load resistor 6 may be replaced by a circuit tuned to a harmonic. After A.C. amplification, the signal is rectified to give a D.C. output. The A.C. potential may be applied at the control grid, and the gridcathode capacity may act as the capacitor. The D.C. signal may be applied to the anode of a valve, the A.C. being applied to the cathode or one of the control electrodes.
