854,066. Valve amplifying circuits; transistor amplifying circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 4, 1957 [Feb. 2, 1956], No. 3272/56. Class 40(6). In an amplifier of the "see-saw" type, comprising a voltage amplifier 1 resistance-coupled to a cathode-follower 9, from the cathode load 12 of which negative feedback is applied back to the grid of the amplifier 1 via resistor 13 and resistor 7, which is in series with the input, the pass-band is extended at the high-frequency end by connecting a resistor 16 in the grid lead to the cathode follower 9. The valve of the resistor 16 is such that in conjunction with the input capacity 17 of the valve 9 it provides a second phase-shifting circuit, the first being the anode load 2 of the valve 1 in conjunction with the output capacity 15: the Specification gives a mathematical expression for the conditions giving maximum bandwidth. The desired additional phase-shifting circuit may alternatively be obtained by adding capacity between the grid of valve 1 and earth, or by adding it between a tap on the feedback resistor 13 and earth. The invention may also be applied to transistor amplifiers, in which case the second stage comprises one of the emitter follower type. Specification 657,026 is referred to.
