Abstract

653,946. Valve amplifying circuits; valve modulating circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd.. Nov. 13, 1948, No. 29513. [Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vi)] A variable load is coupled to the output electrode of a driving valve so as to present a high impedance to the valve, which is driven to cut-off by the negative excursions of the input voltage applied between its control grid and cathode, and brought to such a low output impedance for positive excursions of the input that variations in the minimum potential at the output electrode are reduced and the amplitude of the potential variations applied to the load rendered more constant. As shown, radio frequency oscillations are applied. to a Class B or Class C amplifier 2 with a tuned anode circuit 5, which may be constructed as a line circuit. The output of the driving valve 2 is fed to the cathode of a grounded grid Class B or C amplifier 10 from a tap on the tuned circuit 5. Modulation signals are applied to the grid of the valve 10. The driving valve 2 is arranged to have very steep anode current/anode voltage characteristics, Fig. 2 (not shown), for low anode voltages and high grid voltages, and the modulated valve 10 is connected to present a high load impedance to the driving valve so that variations in the amplitude of the radio frequency drive fed to the modulated valve 10 are greatly reduced. Push-pull driving and modulated stages may be used.
