Abstract
465,613. Thermionic valve circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and' CLOUGH, N. H. Nov. 9, 1935, No. 31075. [Class 40 (v)] A thermionic valve arrangement handling high signal frequencies with the cathode at high potential to earth at signal frequency, as in certain television modulating arrangements, has the cathode heated by energy of a frequency higher than the signal frequency and preferably more than twice this frequency. Fig. 2 shows a modulating valve 4 having a resistance 5 in the cathode lead. Voltages across the resistance 5 are applied to effect modulation on the grids 6, 7 of the carrier amplifier through a copper oxide or similar rectifier 15 or through a floating battery or resistance network. The cathode 3 of the valve 4 is heated from an oscillator 16 through a tuned circuit 17 loosely coupled to the circuit 18 to give low capacity to earth. In a modification, Fig. 3, the cathode heating is effected by coupling to the carrier frequency input stage 11, 12.
