[Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] An amplifier for the selective amplification of pulses of a particular frequency employs as an anode 'resistance an open-ended delay network 31, 32 or length of line so proportioned that owing to the effect of reflection at the ends it acts as a high impedance at that frequency and its harmonies and as a low impedance at other frequencies. The delay network may include a two-way amplifier. A similar principle may be used in a potential divider for separating desired pulses from other currents, as shown in Fig. 6, in which the network 29 is connected to one winding of a transformer, the other winding of which forms a potential divider with a resistance 35. The network may be replaced by a length of transmission line.
