Abstract

558,363. Valves. KEELAVITE ROTARY PUMPS & MOTORS, Ltd., and JOHNSON, E. H. June 30, 1942, No. 8989. [Class 135] A control valve for fluid pressure apparatus in which the control surfaces are of cylindrical form have leakage paths over their end portions formed by one or more flats B<SP>4</SP> the width of each of which decreases progressively from the end remote from the centre of the control surface towards the centre thereof by reason of the flats being inclined to the axis of the valve. In the form shown in the Figure, the valve has two lands B<SP>1</SP> adapted to connect two series of ports A<SP>2</SP> leading to the apparatus under control either to a series of pressure inlet ports A<SP>1</SP> or to one of two series of exhaust ports A<SP>3</SP>. The valve is held against rotation by a screwed pin B<SP>3</SP> engaging a slot B<SP>2</SP>. In a modification, the valve is free to rotate and each land has but two inclined flats and cooperates with internal annular grooves joining the ports A<SP>2</SP>.
