573,685. Valves. ASPIN, F. M. July 20, 1944, No. 13920. [Class 7 (vi)] . [Also in Group XXIX] Lubrication control means for rotary valves for internal-combustion engines and the like, of the kind in which the rotary valve member 11, and its housing 10, have complementary tapered bearing and gas-sealing surfaces, and in which the rotary valve member has an end area subject to axial loads generated by the fluid pressures in the cylinder, comprises annular rings 15, 16, located in grooves immediately above and below the port or ports 13, 14 in the valve member 11, having conical peripheries complementary to and engaging the valve seating. The valve member is allowed limited axial movement and is held to its seating by a loading spring 20. Upper sealing rings 17 and lower rings 18 are also provided. Two or more rings may be used in place of the single rings employed in the example shown; these may be mounted in separate grooves or in the same groove. The rings may be .located in the housing instead of on the rotary member. Specifications 463,412 and 564,850 are referred to.
