Classes 7(ii) and 7(vi) A spring retainer 28 of a poppet valve 12 surrounds a bearing sleeve 25 and only bears upon the upper end thereof to reduce friction and facilitate rotation of the valve, the sleeve 25 being tapered to hold similarly tapered split keys, 26 locked to the valve stem 16. A valve guide 17 is held in the cylinder block 10 by means of a retainer ring 18 and the outer edge of the upper end of the sleeve 25 is chamfered.
