Abstract

557,592. Cooling. ENFIELD CYCLE CO., Ltd., and PARDOE, E. O. June 16,1942, No. 8214. [Class 7 (ii)] A jacket or cowling 6 around the engine cylinder 5 has an open inlet end 7 for cooling air, a lateral inlet 14 for additional cooling air, and an outlet duct 6a at the opposite side leading to a casting 9 around the hub of the engine flywheel 13, which comprises fan blades 13b for withdrawing the cooling air by suction. As shown, a horizontal opposed - twin twostroke engine has a jacket 6 around each ribbed cylinder, with a coned annulus 7 in the air-inlet end, and the air entering the transverse inlet 14 impinges against the exhaust ports 5b of each cylinder.
