Abstract

729,623. Valves ; cooling valve chests. LIST, H. May 19, 1953 [May 19, 1952], No. 14041/53. Classes 7(2) and 7(6). [Also in Group XXVI] The exhaust outlet 7 of a two-stroke engine is controlled by a rotary valve comprising for each cylinder a separate valve part 10 mounted in a casing 8 having an opening at one side, each valve part 10 being connected at opposite ends to stub shafts 11 ... 13 and having a valve face 14 which has a width, in the direction of the axis of rotation, which is smaller than the distance between its associated stub shafts. The opening in the casing 8 is closed by an exhaust manifold 9 and m a two cylinder engine one valve 10 is connected to shafts 11, 12 and the other to the shafts 12, 13, which shafts are journalled in roller bearings 21 ... 23 located in sleeves 18 ... 20. The valves are connected to the shafts on the side thereof opposite to the valve face by lugs 17 which act as balancing masses. The casing 8 is water-cooled, the water entering the cooling jacket through an inlet 27.
