Abstract
1,123,885. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. SACHSENRING AUTOMOBILWERKE ZWICKAU VEB. April 27, 1967, No. 19389/67. Heading F1F. In a rotary-piston I.C. engine of trochoidal type having side admission ports and in which the drive unit comprising the shaft, eccentric and piston is cooled by fresh gas prior to its admission to the engine working chamber, to ensure adequate cooling of the drive unit and satisfactory operational behaviour of the engine over its entire operational range, elliptical-shaped recesses 11, Fig. 1, are formed in each of the side casing parts 3,4, Fig. 2, of the engine and connected at one end or near the centre to induction ports 9, 10 leading from the carburetter 8 and at the other end to side admission ports 13, 14 and through passages 15, 16 to a peripheral inlet port 17, the port 17 being controlled by a throttle valve 19 connected by linkage 20 with the carburetter. During idling or partial load operation, the port 17 is closed to keep the dead space small. At, e.g. two-thirds load the port 17 is opened to increase the supply of combustion gas to the engine. The gas is mixed with lubricant to lubricate the eccentric -carrying shaft and bearings and the passage of the gas across the recesses 11 ensures adequate cooling of the drive unit at all times; increased loading resulting in increased passage of gas. A blower-like device may be provided on the eccentric-carrying shaft in each of the recesses 11.
