Classes 7(2) and 7(6) The cylinder heads of an air-cooled engine have a relatively thin portion 9 adjacent the cylinder connected by fins 10 to a thicker annular portion 11 which takes the stress of the cylinder head bolts 12. The cylinders 3 are supported in a frame 7 and provided with vertical cooling ribs 8. The cooling air from a fan 29 is guided by a casing 27 through the annular members 11, past fins 10 and down along the cylinder fins 8 to escape ports 31, Fig. 2, which, in the case of engines installed in buildings, may be connected to pipes conducting the heated air outside the building. The axes of the suction and exhaust valves 14, 13, Fig. 2, their operating rockers 20, 19, and associated passages 16, 15, are substantially in a plane at right angles to the crank-shaft.
