904,407. Cooling cylinders; valve gear. NSU MOTORENWERKE A.G. May 12, 1961 [May 14, 1960], No. 17434/61. Classes 7(2) and 7(6) Adjacent individual cylinder units of an air cooled engine are connected together, in the vicinity of the cylinder head, by a distance piece 3, Fig. 1, so that at operating temperatures the distance piece is expanded by substantially the same amount as the crankcase. The distance piece 3 which has cooling fins 7, Fig. 2, is held between the cylinder and cylinder head with the inter-position of heat-insulating means 6, and individual camshaft housings are joined by dustproof resilient bellows 11. In another embodiment a camshaft housing 12, Fig. 3, either builtup or as a single piece, is secured on the cylinder heads 5, with the interposition of heat-insulating means 13.
