In an air cooled cylinder head lubricating oil from an injector nozzle 34, Fig.3, is directed into a cavity 30 on to a highly thermally stressed port 31 of the head e. g. the bridge between the inlet and exhaust ports 12, 16, the oil flowing away through passage 39. The surface 31 is provided with ribs 32.
