Abstract

1,191,421. Cooling and heating charge; cylinder intake systems. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. March 14, 1968 [March 17, 1967], No.12473/68. Heading F1B. Compressed charge from a supercharger flowing through a passage 25 in a manifold 15 is cooled by the engine cooling water flowing through a passage 24 in the manifold. In the V-engine shown the passage 24 is connected to the cylinder head cooling chamber through a pipe 19 sliding in bores in the cylinder head 12 and manifold 15, the pipe being sealed by ring seals 20, 29. The member 19 has a projection 30 which engages a stop 32 on the valve gear cover 21. When the cover 21 is removed a slot 31 permits projection 30 to slide downwardly to allow the member 19 to retract, permitting removal of the manifold 15 sidewards. The manifold is held in position by studs 27a, Fig. 2, passing through bores 26a in the partition 23 between the liquid and air passages 24, 25. The liquid may be heated by a heating device to facilitate starting.
