Abstract
1,108,782. Valve gear. F. ORAZIO. May 18, 1965 [May 26; 1964; Dec. 18, 1964], No. 20890/65. Heading F1B. In an I. C. engine in which the piston and cylinder head are shaped to cause 'squishing' of the gases into a small offset combustion chamber 5, Fig. 1 part of the valve means provides intake and exhaust overlap both before and after the t. d. c. position and at least part of the valve means is substantially closed at t. d. c. The combustion chamber has a smaller crosssection than that of the cylinder when the position is at t. d. c. Part 4, Fig. 2 of the piston 8 is of inverted Vee-shape and lies adjacent a correspondingly shaped part of the cylinder head. The larger intake and exhaust valves 2, 2a are closed at exhaust t. d. c. but have smaller additional openings respectively starting and ending more than 35 degrees before and after t. d. c. Smaller intake and exhaust valves 4, 4a have continuous valve overlap at t. d. c. In a further embodiment (not shown) the valves 4, 4a are omitted.
