Abstract

885,281. Two-stroke engines; cooling cylinders; valves. SAWLE, W. S. June 12, 1958, No. 18856/58. Classes 7(2) and 7(6). Crank-chambers 20, 21, Fig. 4, in which opposed pistons 41, 49 compress combustible mixture are interconnected by ducts 70, 71, 73, 74, 76, 75 and 77 formed as open channels, Fig. 9, in the inner face of bolted-up cylinder barrel portions of the crank-chambers and closed off by a cylinder liner 30. The fuel mixture thus cools the liner 30 and is heated. Cylinder inlet and exhaust ports 78, 79 are provided. A crank-chamber inlet valve 60, Fig. 12, is rotated by one crank-pin 38<SP>1</SP> of the intergeared engine crank-shafts and has sector shaped ports coacting with like ports in a cover 62 connected to a carburetter 65. In a modification the piston 41 leads the piston 49 by 15 degrees and the exhaust ports 79 are opened 25 degrees before the inlet ports 78, to allow supercharging. Timing diagrams are given.
