Abstract

1,031,571. Cylinder heads for I.C. engines. H. WESLAKE. April 13, 1965 [Jan. 14, 1964], No. 1677/64. Heading F1B. A cylinder head for an overhead valve engine is formed by separate lower and upper parts 10, 11, the exhaust passages 16 extending only through the lower part 10 whilst the inlet passages 18 extend through both lower and upper parts. The part 10 is of cast iron or bronze and the part 11, which supports the valve gear, is separated by a gasket 27 and is formed of a material of high heat conductivity such as aluminium alloy. The inlet passage is formed with a throat at 7 and with a ledge 8 to intercept unvaporised fuel. Cooling fins 4 are provided on the part 11 and on its cover plate 29. A water cooling chamber 5 is provided adjacent the ledge 8.
