Abstract

1,166,678. Cylinder heads; precombustion chambers. MAYBACH MERCEDES-BENZ MOTORENBAU G.m.b.H. Dec.9, 1966 [Dec.10, 1965], No.55187/66. Heading FIB. A precombustion chamber 17 is mounted in a cage-like part 27 of the cylinder head which is reinforced by an intermediate horizontal wall 35 and a cylindrical vertical wall 39. Cooling water entering at 10, 11, flows through parts 40 in wall 39 towards the cage 27, through ports 37 to cool the chamber 17 and through outlets 38 into the cylinder head jacket with a main outlet 42. In an engine with six valves per cylinder, the cylinder head bolt supporting bosses (41, Fig.4, not shown) are integral with the wall 39 and extend up to wall 35. In an engine with four valves per cylinder Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown) ribs (56) are provided extending the whole height of the cylinder head.
