Abstract
1328564 Two-stroke engines H PAPST 4 Sept 1970 [10 Sept 1969] 42480/70 Heading F1B To direct the fresh charge of air or mixture substantially parallel to the flat top 24 of the piston 25, nozzles 23 are defined between the upper walls of the inlet ports 20 and tongues 19 projecting into the ports from a ring 18 or the cylinder is divided and a nozzle 32 is defined between the upper part 28 of the cylinder and a ring 30 disposed on the lands 31 between the inlet ports 26. The ports 20 may be formed by a concave milling cutter so that the upper and lower walls are at an acute angle to the cylinder working surface. The ring 30 may be fastened to the lands 31 by adhesive bonding or spot welding or it may be spring biased into a groove in the cylinder. Ribs (33), Fig. 6 (not shown), formed on the ring 30 may abut the cylinder part 28 and cause swirl in the fresh charge. A pair of rings 30, Fig.7 (not shown), with ribs (33) may be located between the cylinder parts. The ports 20, 26 may cause swirl of the fresh charge. The lower cylinder part 27 may be manufactured by a shell moulding process in copper alloy or a metal lighter than cast iron to improve heat conduction.
