Abstract

PURPOSE: To converge a portion of scavenging airflow on the central portion of the exhaust port and prevent the deposition of carbides on the exhaust port by a method wherein a pair of projected walls opening toward the central portion of the exhaust port are provided on the exhaust-port side of the top face of the piston.
CONSTITUTION: Projected walls 12 are provided on the top of the piston 4, on the slightly inner side with respect to the outside periphery of the piston 4 and in such a manner as to face the front surfaces of two walls 5a, 5a along the circumference of an exhaust port 5. The projected walls 12 serve to converge a portion of the scavenging air flowing through the exhaust port 5 on the central portion of the port 5. Accordingly, the fuel component contained in the scavenging airflow is provided with less opportunity of contacting the hot portions near the inside surface of the cylinder, so that the deposition of carbides on the exhaust port is prevented.
