Abstract

556,652. Internal shoe drum brakes. BENDIX, Ltd., and IRVING, J. S. May 5, 1942, No. 6033. [Class 103(i)] The non-pivoted ends of the shoes of an internal shoe-drum brake are adapted to be spread apart to apply the brake by a floating lever 15 extending substantially at right angle to the plane of the shoes so as to engage their webs 12 and 13 at laterally spaced points, as shown in fig. 2. The lever 15, is shown here, is located against detachment by means of pegs 18 on each side of the back plate 14. As shown in Fig. 5, the lever 28 is pivotally connected to another lever 29 of substantial length having a notch 31 engaging on one edge of a slot in the back plate 14. Similar actuator devices operated by fluid pressure piston and cylinder devices are also described.
