Abstract

554,028. Fuel-injection engines. ELLIS, E. D., and FOWLER & CO. (LEEDS), Ltd., J. Feb. 5, 1942, No. 1520. [Class 7 (iii)] The combustion chamber 1 comprises a parallel-walled bore formed directly into the body of the cylinder head, and arranged to overlap the cylinder wall and form a restricted entrance 8, Figs. 1 and 2. Its axis may be at right angles to the face of the cylinder head, or inclined thereto, either towards the cylinder as shown, or away therefrom. The axis may also be in a radial plane of the cylinder as in Fig. 2, or inclined towards the inlet or exhaust valve 9 or 10. In modifications, the chamber may be formed with a secondary bore 1x, either as shown in Fig. 7 or Fig. 10, forming the restricted entrance.
