Abstract

568,940. Valves. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and HAEFELI, J. C. Oct. 22, 1943, No. 17394. [Class 7 (vi)] To cool an exhaust valve, the stem a is surrounded by a shroud F separate from the valve guide and spaced from the valve stem, the shroud shielding the valve stem from the hot gases in the exhaust passage E. As shown, the shroud is screwed into the cylinder head C and may be formed of metal or porcelain &c., but in a modification, the shroud is integral with the cylinder head. A gap H is left between the end of the shroud and the valve guide D to minimise heat transference.
