Abstract

575,152. Valves. HEADFORD, W. A. Oct. 23, 1944, No. 20517. [Class 7 (vi)] The stem of a poppet exhaust valve G has a collar E, rounded at its outer edge and flat underneath, to deflect the exhaust gases away from the stem and the guide A which is reduced in length to accommodate the collar. The normal curvature of the underside of the valve head is continued into the collar. In the case of an existing valve, the end of the guide is cut off and welded to the valve stem to form the collar, but a new valve has the collar made integral therewith.
