[Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] The exhaust of aircraft or vehicle engines is led by pipes 8 to a casing 1, through the centre of which air passes by means of tubes 5, 7 leading to the outlet 3 and arranged with spaces at 12, 13 through which the gases are drawn. Perforated baffles 10 are provided in the casing, and apertures may also be formed in the casing at 14. In aircraft the silencers may be arranged within the wings, or underneath the fuselage, and in the former case the upper and lower walls of the silencer may be coincident with the wing surfaces.
