Abstract

531,989. Utilizing aircraft exhaust gases. JUNKERS FLUGZEUG-UND-MOTORENWERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 10, 1939, No. 23092. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1938. Addition to 506,699. [Class 4] In an arrangement for the utilization of exhaust gases for the propulsion of aircraft and of the kind claimed in the parent Specification, the exhaust pipes 2 from the cylinders are arranged to open into a surrounding streamlined fairing 3 having an air inlet 4 through which air acts in injector fashion to draw additional air through lateral openings 5 into the interior of the fairing. The reaction of the indrawn air and exhaust gases reduces the head resistance of the fairing. The inlets 5 may be formed as nozzlelike openings in the fairing, or by a series of overlapping annular members 8. The fairing is provided with a rearwardly-directed opening 6, and is attached to the aircraft to conform to the streamline of the fuselage.
