Abstract

542,469. Valve amplifying circuits. WHITE, E. L. C., and BULL, E. W. June 8, 1940, No. 10028. [Class 40 (v)] Selectivity is varied while the gain is maintained constant by an amplifier including a tuned circuit, by the provision of negative feedback to counteract the increased sensitivity due to positive feedback. The Figure shows an arrangement in which a variable resistance R2 in the cathode lead produces the feedback and by choice of the tapping b and series resistance R3 in conjunction with the effective shunt resistance R1 of the tuned circuit the gain may be held substantially constant. The Provisional Specification describes the use of a variable-mu valve in the circuit when the bias is varied and the resistance R2 is of fixed value.
