Abstract
536,035. Valve circuits for wireless reception. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and ZEPLER, E. E. Nov. 21, 1939, No. 30525. [Class 40 (v)] In a radio receiver comprising at least two valve amplifier stages, common control means are provided for subjecting said stages to volume control together with means whereby on operation of said volume control means in a sense to reduce gain, the gain of one stage is maintained substantially constant until the gain of the other stage is reduced to a predetermined extent. In Fig. 1 V1 and V2 are H.F. and I.F. amplifiers respectively. Negative bias from a potentiometer R2 is applied directly to the grid of V2, and through a dry-plate rectifier I to the grid of V1. As the slider of potentiometer R2 moves to the left, the gain of V2 is reduced linearly; while in the early stages the gain of V1 is substantially unaffected until the resistance I decreases to reduce the gain of V2 at an increasing rate. The manually controlled slider may be replaced by an automatically variable potential applied across R2.
