Abstract
414,359. Valve amplifying circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, FARREN, L. I., and MARRIS, G. C., c/o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Jan. 31, 1933, No. 3025. [Class 40 (v).] A diode included in the same envelope as an amplifying valve is connected so as to counteract the second harmonic distortion produced by the amplifier due to the positive half waves being amplified more than the negative half waves. As shown, the diode comprises an anode 3 co-operating with the cathode 2 of a triode, which latter comprises grid 4 and anode 5. The diode in one embodiment, Fig. 1, absorbs energy when the grid is positive being shunted between the grid and cathode of the triode. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the diode and a resistance 11 form a potential divided across the input voltage source, the potential across the resistance 11 being applied to the grid circuit of the triode. In either of the above embodiments, the diode may be shunted by a regulating resistance 6. In a third embodiment the diode is connected to absorb power from the output circuit when the triode grid is positive, (Fig. 3, not shown).
