Abstract

503,443. Modulation systems. LORENZ AKT.-GES., C. Jan. 13, 1938, No. 1198. Convention date, Jan. 13, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] In order to improve the efficiency of u high frequency modulation system a floating carrier modulator is combined with a power amplifier, the .anode voltage of which is varied in accordance with the modulation amplitude. The grid of the modulating stage 2 has applied to it modulating potentials from microphone 5 over amplifier 4 and transformer 3. The modulator grid circuit includes a resistance 6, across which potentials derived from the rectifier 7 are applied to provide the floating carrier control. The final power amplifier 9 is preceded by an amplifier 8 and a low frequency transformer 10 inserted in its connection to the anode voltage source A. The primary of transformer 10 forms the output circuit of the push-pull class B amplifier 12, the grids of which are controlled by the modulation from amplifier 11. To improve the quality and prevent retroaction a low frequency counter feed-back may be provided at the amplifier 9 by deriving a voltage from the output of amplifier 12 by means of winding 13 and conveying it to the grid of valve 9 over transformer 14. The amplifier 12 may be operated without standing current as distortion may be allowed to arise to some extent since it is compensated by the counter feed-back.
