Abstract
853,870. Transistor amplifying circuits. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. April 11, 1958 [April 17, 1957], No. l2577/57. Class 40(6). The gain of a transistor amplifier is controlled by variation of the amount of negative feedback. As applied to automatic gain control in an I.F. amplifier, the D.C. output of detector VT2 is smoothed by network C and used to control the resistance of a junction diode MR1 which forms for A.C. a variable shunt across the emitter circuit resistor R1 of I.F. amplifier VT1. For manual control, the resistance of diode MR1 may be controlled from a potentiometer across the power supply (Fig. 1, not shown), or alternatively from the voltage across resistor R1 by connecting a variable resistor across condenser Cl (Fig. 2, not shown).
