Abstract

640,920. Automatic gain control. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 18, 1947, No. 10445. (Class 40 (v)] In an audio amplifier the gain is jointly controlled by a slow-acting automatic level control and a fast-acting automatic contrast control. Signals from the output of the main amplifier 1 are applied via a branch amplifier 2 to a full-wave rectifier 3C which together with a resistance 3R and load circuit 4, 5 comprises the slow-acting control means. The output of the amplifier 2 is also applied to a rectifier 6C which together with a load circuit 7, 8 comprises the fast-acting control, the potentials across the resistances 4, 8 being additively combined to control the gain of the main amplifier 1. A delay bias may be applied to the rectifier 3C over the lead 3L, and a delay bias may also be applied to the rectifier 6C. The arrangement may be modified by feeding the rectifier 6C from a separate branch amplifier whose gain is controlled in the abovedescribed manner by means of a third rectifier provided with an adjustable delay bias.
