Abstract

1,023,613. Receiver detector and gain control circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 8, 1963 [Feb. 10, 1962], No. 5239/63. Headings H3Q and H3T. A radio receiver has its detector output coupled for A.C. and D.C. to a succeeding transistor amplifier which amplifies the A.C. and provides an A.G.C. voltage therefrom, the amplifier also providing a potential which stabilizes its own bias. The detector diode 4 is forward biased by a voltage from potentiometer 9, 10 and as the signal level increases the change in transistor and detector bias is reduced by the decrease in voltage across resistor 10 due to the increasing voltage across resistor 8. For large signals however the bias applied to the detector from resistor 10 decreases and may reverse, so enabling the detector to handle these larger signals and reducing the signal input to the transistor. The operation of the transistor may be stabilized by making resistor 10 temperature dependent and an A.G.C. signal may be derived from a potentiometer 13, the setting of which determines the delay.
