Abstract
540,156. Hose pipe couplings. WILSON, W. B., and SUTCLIFFE, R. U. May 27, 1940, No. 9309. [Class 99 (i)] In a hose-pipe or other coupling a sleeve 2 which is free to rotate on a pipe connector 7 is forced against a collar 4 having a bull-nose 5 which engages a sealing ring 10 housed in an extension 1 of the pipe-connector 6. To connect the pipes, projections with inclined faces on the sleeve 2 are passed through recesses in the part 1 and by a bayonet-like movement the parts 1 and 2 are forced together by a wedge action. Projections 11 and 12 enable the parts to be gripped during the make and break of the joint. To secure the part 2 to its connector a screw 14 is forced against a fibre pad 13. If necessary a tool, Fig. 4, such as a short pipe length may be applied to the grips 11, 12, to increase their leverage. A screw-driver 16 in the tool is adapted for use with the screw 14.
