Abstract

539,364. Alloys; annealing. NATIONAL SMELTING CO. March 5. 1940, No. 4157. Convention date, July 14, 1939. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] Aluminium alloys contain 1.2-12 per cent. of zinc, 0.3-1.5 per cent. of silicon, calcium if necessary in an amount such as to reduce the upper limit of silicon uncombined with calcium to 0.7 per cent. and a proportion of magnesium made up of two factors one being 174 per cent. of the above amount of silicon uncombined with calcium, and the other being 35-45 per cent. of the zinc. There may also be an excess of magnesium over these amounts up to 1 per cent., and 2-6 per cent. of copper may also be present. The alloys may be aged for 15 hours at 176.5‹C., or they may be annealed at 505‹C., quenched, and aged either at 176.5‹C. or at room temperature.
