535,063. Crank casings. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMATIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. Sept. 21, 1939, No. 26340. Convention date, Oct. 17, 1938. [Class 7 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] For maintaining sub-atmospheric pressure in the crank case of an engine, a valveless orifice 11 connects the crank case 5 to a chamber 8 which communicates below the oil level with the oil bath 6 and is open at 14 to the atmosphere or to the engine induction pipe. The orifice 11 is flared out at the end 12 and has a sharp edge 13, in order to oppose a smaller resistance to air leaving the crank case than to entering air. Valve rods may pass through the orifice 11.
