Abstract

515,687. Valve gear for vacuum engines. BEDALE, P. W. March 29, 1938, No. 9644. [Classes 122 (ii) and 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII] Fuel condensing in the delivery passages of a super-charging pump during throttled running is drawn off by a pump operated by the suction therein occurring during such running. A pump 9, operating through suction and delivery valves 41, 43, is reciprocated by a piston 10, the opposite sides of which are alternately put in communication with the delivery passage of the supercharging pump by a pipe 35, and the atmosphere through ports 33, 36 by a valve 14. The valve is operated by snap-action springs 26, pivoted links 17, 23 being moved over their dead - centre positions through a lost-motion device comprising a collar 27 sliding in slot 22. A passage 46, places corresponding sides of the plunger and piston under the same fluid pressure. The suction and delivery valves 41, 43 may comprise non- return valves as shown, or valves controlled by an extension of the valve 14. The pipes 42, 44 lead, from the volute chamber of the supercharging pump, and to waste, respectively. Specification 347,785, [Group XXVII], is referred to.
