Abstract
301,737. Parant, J. Dec. 3, 1927, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Actuating pumps by fluid-pressure motors.-Motor pistons b<1>, b<2> are actuated by vacuum such as that existing in the inlet pipe of an internal combustion engine; they are mounted on cylinders c<1>, c<2> enclosing fixed pistons c<1>, e<2>, and reciprocate the cylinders in which compression takes place, the air entering through ports in the pistons e<1>, e<2> and passing out through valves in a box z which separates the compression spaces. A slide valve r effects the distribution of air to the motor and the compressor cylinders, controlling vacuum and air inlet ports i, k<1> and passages d<1> leading to the compressor cylinders. The valve is held in one position during each stroke by spring- pressed catches n<2>, Fig. 3; at the end of the stroke a motor piston b<2> pushes a rod p<2> which releases the catch allowing a spring m<2> on a rod passing loosely through the valve to flick the valve over till it is held in the other position by the corresponding catch.
