Abstract
237,642. Gil, L. April 23, 1924. Actuating pumps by fluidpressure motors ; compound piston pumps.-A motor compressor comprises a hollow piston-rod carrying multiple pistons moving with the rod. One of the pistons controls the fuel admission. A compressor is disposed at each end of the rod. The hollow rod A carries a piston 7 controlling the fuel inlets 8. The fuel passes alternately through apertures 9 in the shaft to one of the explosion spaces 1, 2. Explosion in one space compresses the mixture in the other space to the ignition point, and the consequent explosion reverses the stroke. The reversal is assisted by " accelerator " spaces 3, 4 to which a regulated amount of compressed air may be admitted. Starting may be effected by admission of compressed air to one of these spaces, the other being placed temporarily in connection with the atmosphere. Air or gas to be compressed is admitted through pipes 11, 12 to the first stage compressor c, entering the chamber 16 as soon as the shoulder 13 has passed to the right of the face 14, and being forced into the passage 19 on return stroke. The air or gas passes through a cooler R and pipe B to the second stage compressor, entering through passages 7<1>, 8<1> to the chamber M and annular space 21. Engagement of the parts 22, 23 closes this space, and the fluid is compressed until the segment 24 comes opposite the space G, when it is forced out through the pipe 20.
