Abstract

658,118. Air compressors. MOREILLON, A. E. Dec. 31, 1948, No. 33578. [Class 8(i)] A multi-stage air compressor comprises a low pressure stage cylinder 2, a parallel intermediate stage cylinder 3, formed with two different diameters and containing a stepped piston 17, the compression chamber being formed by the annular space defined by the stepped.piston and cylinder and a high-pressure stage cylinder 4 coaxial with the cylinder 3, and containing a piston 33 operatively connected to the piston 17 by a ball and socket joint 21. The piston 17 and the low pressure piston are operated by separate crankshafts 25, 11 gear driven from a shaft 27. The cylinder 4 is surrounded by a helical chamber 30 supplied with oil for cooling purposes and lubricates the piston 33 through a duct 66. The cylinders are finned and finned interstage coolers are fitted between each stage. Specifications 637,194, 637,196 and 637,199, [all in Group XXXVI], are referred to.
